Discover Our Secluded Chesapeake Bay Estate
Step Back in Time to an Elegant Chesapeake Bay Estate
Envisioned by entrepreneur and industrialist E.Taylor Chewning, Tacaro Farm was built in 1940 using bricks from Chewning’s own kilns in Washington, D.C. Over the last century, the farm-turned-estate has hosted luminaries from musicians to novelists to titans of industry. Former presidents of the United States, including John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, have stayed at Tacaro to escape the public pressures of nearby Washington, D.C.
History has given The Inn at Tacaro Estate an enviable pedigree, but it’s our first-rate service that defines our legacy. Guests from all over the world feel like they are among our family and friends–because they are.
“Fashion changes, but style endures.”
Relax in Peace and Tranquility at Our Luxurious Getaway Destination
As the entire mansion was built only one-room deep, there are no hallways, just many hidden or grand staircases. Not only does each room and suite have light coming in from windows on more than one wall, every room has a view of the Chesapeake Bay where boats and cruise ships serenely drift by. All suites have terraces, and each room shares a staircase with (at most) only one other room, which is ideal for social distancing. Warmed by 12 original wood-burning or eco-friendly fireplaces, winters at our Chesapeake Bay inn are cozy and inviting.
Within the walls of Tacaro Estate, novels have been penned, political ideology has been manifested, and world economies have been orchestrated. Outside its walls and within the property, guests have relaxed and rested in the privacy, peace, and tranquility of what was once a 400-acre estate. Now a vast 74 acres of lawns, pastures, and woods, the property’s oasis of calm features French-style courtyards, Italian-style gardens, covered patios and rotundas, English stables to host your treasured horses, a swimming pool and spa, and a one-of-a-kind underground speakeasy with bar purchased from a Gilded Age hotel in Washington, D.C.

Meet Your Hosts, Susan & Luciano
Susan Holley and Luca Luciano journeyed from Los Angeles, California, to Maryland for, quite literally, greener pastures. With many years of hospitality experience gained from hosting events in Los Angeles, they yearned to create a haven of peace and tranquility from the busy hustle of everyday life.
Susan has been an attorney in L.A. and Washington, D.C. for over 30 years. However, through The Inn at Tacaro Estate she has realized her true passion of design and architecture, landscaping, the culinary arts, and giving friends and loved ones a unique hospitality experience. For Susan, hosting a dinner party is not just about great food and drink. It’s also about creating a whole sensory experience that will transport guests to a different place and time.
Luciano, as he likes to be called, has operated some of the most exclusive nightclubs in Los Angeles. With his sense of humor, wit, and unique ability to make anyone and everyone feel instantly welcomed, he has earned a reputation as one of the most gracious of hosts.
Together, Susan and Luciano endeavor to create more than a relaxing getaway. They endeavor to leave their guests with a bespoke experience that will never be forgotten.
